Rachael is an Associate Professor in Te Ipukarea Research Institute (previously the National Māori Language Institute) at Auckland University of Technology (AUT). Rachael, who is Māori (Ngāti Porou, Ngāi Tahu), Hawaiian, Cook Island Māori, and Sāmoan, completed a PhD in 2010 before commencing at AUT in 2011. Her research interests include the revitalisation of the Māori language, traditions and knowledge, and Indigenous Peoples’ rights and the politics of identity and place, especially in relation to the Indigenous diaspora.
