Mairéad is an Associate Professor of Geographic Information Science (GIS) in the School of Geography, Environment, and Earth Sciences at Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington. She leads the SpatialThink lab which explores spatial thinking, learning, and cognition.

Mairéad’s research centres on how people use and communicate geographic information, with key focuses on pedagogy and visual communication through cartography and geovisualization. Mairéad’s approach is informed by user centred design and human computer interaction (HCI).
