Teleconnections in Antarctic environmental data

Organisation

Te Pūnaha Matatini

Location

Auckland

Project description

Teleconnections are long range links between events or features that are separated in space and/or time, but which appear to have a causal relationship. This project will involve identifying such events in large sets of environmental satellite data from Antarctica. The project will involve a mix of statistical analysis, processing big data sets in a high-performance computing environment, and network visualisation. You’ll be part of a complex networks research group based in the physics department at the University of Auckland, and will build on existing research on this project. In addition to the programming and visualisation, the project will involve scientific writing to turn the research findings into a report.

Skills required

You’ll need your own laptop and familiarity with programming in Python. You should also be comfortable using a terminal to run code, or be happy to learn.
