Reforming New Zealand’s justice sector

Organisation

Ministry of Justice

Location

Wellington

Project description

Sector Group as part of the Ministry of Justice is responsible for leading the reform programme for the Justice Sector. New Zealand’s prison population has recently crossed 10,000 and is forecast to grow to 14,400 by 2027. This growth is unsustainable and a programme of reform to assess current legislation, policy and practice is now underway. The programme is evidence based and there is a wealth of knowledge and evidence to be extracted from mining our sector data sets.

It is intended that the successful applicant will be working to develop our evolving datasets and, with guidance, extract a number of discrete analyses from these. The successful applicant will be expected to use data to generate insight and produce two page factsheets which support the evidence base for reform.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to reform the Justice Sector and fundamentally change the way we approach Justice and you could be a part of the change. Come and join us working on Hāpaitia te Oranga Tangata and making a difference to the lives of all New Zealand.
